For thousands of years, the ruby has been considered one of the most valuable gemstones on Earth. It has everything a precious stone should have: magnificent color, excellent hardness and outstanding brilliance. In addition to that, it is an extremely rare gemstone, especially in its finer qualities.
Ruby is the red variety of the corundum family- the blue one is called sapphire!
The color may vary from any shade of red to pinkish , slightly purplish or even brownish , depending on the chromium and iron content and country of its origin.
The finest gems , known as “pigeon-blood” red , come from Burma.Besides these many colors, they also appear as “star-rubies”. Rutile inclusions create a six-rayed star effect in this gems, which is called “asterism”. Star sapphires or star-rubies are always cut “en cabochon”.
The value of such a stone, does not only depend on its color and carat weight, but on the visibility and intensity of the star.
With a hardness of 9, the ruby is second only to the diamond and perfectly suited for stunning jewellery, associated with passion, power & love.
